PIR-International is an association of data collection centers engaged in an international cooperation for the development and evolution of computational biology by designing and compiling a comprehensive database of protein sequence information. In 1988 the Protein Information Resource established a cooperative effort with the Munich Information Center for Protein Sequences (MIPS) and the Japan International Protein Information Database (JIPID) to collect, publish and distribute what is now known as the oldest and most reliable source of biomolecular sequence data.
